Alumni-in-Residence: Sign Up for Office Hours with Dr. Cuthbert “Tuffy” Simpkins ‘69
The Loeb Center's Alumni-in-Residence program is excited to offer 20-minute, 1-on-1, in-person, informational office hour appointments with Dr. Cuthbert “Tuffy” Simpkins ‘69.
Dr. Simpkins is the Sosland-Missouri Endowed Chair in Trauma Services in the Department of Surgery at UMKC School of Medicine, as well as the founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Vivacelle Bio, Inc., in Kansas City, Missouri. His research is supported by grants from the Naval Medical Research Center for a clinical trial of VBI-S for the treatment of hypovolemia in septic shock patients; from the Army for the study of reanimation after clinical death; and the National Institutes of Health for the development of methods for the treatment of sepsis without antibiotics. Dr. Simpkins invented the phospholipid nanoparticle technology for treating shock due to sepsis or hemorrhage, and has been issued 10 US patents and 35 patents in international jurisdictions for discoveries related to this technology.
Dr. Simpkins earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Amherst College, a medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed his general surgery residency at the Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
