Teacher - Adult Ed Placerville Jail Teacher

Job Summary

The El Dorado County Office of Education is looking for a talented individual to join our Charter Adult Education Team! If you are interested in working with the justice involved population and you like to make a difference, then this opportunity may be for you! EDCOE’s goals with the justice involved population are to decrease recidivism, create new opportunities to change life trajectory, decrease the involvement with the criminal justice system, and help build infrastructure at the community level to promote long-term safety and opportunity in El Dorado County. 

This is a certificated position that will assist in planning and implementing an academic, vocational, and/or personal growth program for incarcerated adults in the Placerville Jail. The successful candidate will maintain an orderly, safe and well-managed classroom environment and will be required to pass all security clearances. 

The position consists of two parts: 

1) As a Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Facilitator, this teacher will facilitate the MRT Program. MRT is the premiere cognitive-behavioral treatment program for substance abuse and offender populations. Developed in 1985 by Dr. Gregory Little and Dr. Kenneth Robinson, over 200 published outcome studies have documented that MRT-treated offenders show significantly lower recidivism for periods as long as 20 years after treatment. 2) As an Adult Education Teacher, this teacher will assist inmates toward their educational goals including but not limited to: earning high school diploma, preparing for the equivalency exam, accessing software-based educational programs that boost basic skills, provide introductory CTE courses, re-entry series programs, ESL program, career exploration, and a variety of other educational options.

Requirements / Qualifications

This vacancy is for our Placerville Jail site 

Essential Job Functions: 

- Prepare materials and provide instruction to adult learners in the custody setting.

 - Prepare and submit requested reports in an accurate and timely manner.

 - Participate in appropriate developmental and organizational activities.

 - Adhere to and maintain security and safety measures.

 - Work with other staff including administrative, counseling, clerical and other instructors. 

- Other related duties as assigned 

Qualifications: Preferable experience in Alternative Adult Education and in a correctional environment as well as case management and group facilitation. 

Education: Valid California Teaching Credential.
