SPECIAL EVENT STAFF - POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Student Event Staff is responsible for providing assistance to customers and help with event set up of all non-NMU varsity athletics events within the Superior Dome, Berry Events Center and Vandament Arena. Students should have experience with customer interaction and able to handle physical set up of events. 

Students will assist with setting up all non-varsity athletic events (example: conventions/trade shows, youth sports, meetings) as well as coordinating and working directly with customers during the event. Students applying for this position should be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, creative problem solving and complete follow through with all details. Evening and weekend work required.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Set up and tear down of all events within the athletic facilities

  • Set up tables, chairs, staging, draping, athletic equipment and any other items needed for all events
  • Tear down, put away and organize all items after event has ended

Day-of Event Duties

  • Make sure the building and all items are set and ready for the event
  • Help customers with requests as needed during the event
  • Act as the manager on duty when the Events Manager is not present
  • Problem solve for any issues that arise during the event
  • Help with any cleaning duties during events as needed such as replacing garbage cans, cleaning up spills, etc.

Office Work

  • Helping create and distribute any signage for facility
  • Various office duties as assigned

 

 

POSITION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be a registered student attending NMU (minimum 6 credit hours)

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational skills and the ability to be flexible

Exceptional customer service skills and ability to engage with guests and staff

High level of punctuality and dependability

Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations

Must have strong communication skills

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Must have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift 25 pounds
