General Description
Performs advanced (senior-level) consultative services and technical assistance work related to planning, developing, and implementing the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) and all programs within the PMP including Texas Wholesale Distributor Database (TWDD), and Official Prescription Pad Orders. Work involves providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, government agencies, community organizations, or the general public. May serve as a lead worker providing direction to others.
Works under the limited supervision of the Prescription Monitoring Program Manager with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment within the limits of the agency and team policies and procedures. Work is subject to review by others, including the PMP Manager, General Counsel, and Executive Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs an array of technical, training, policy, program, assessment, and administrative activities related to the Prescription Monitoring Program.
- Compiles and analyzes data and prepares reports via Tableau and Excel.
- Collaborates in the planning, development, implementation, analysis, and documentation of the Prescription Monitoring Program. Work involves:
- Preparing and distributing periodic Program reports required of program (e.g., Clinical Alert data, etc.).
- Reviewing data reports prepared by Program Analysts for accuracy (e.g., Open Records Requests, statistical reporting, etc.).
- Coordinating, monitoring and reviewing results of completed team audits (PMP user audits, pharmacist lookup audit, PMP reporting audits, etc.) May provide feedback to team personnel.
- Developing, reviewing, and suggesting revisions of team policies and procedures.
- Reviewing PMP Integration requests.
- Investigating and resolving requests for PMP profile deconsolidation and/or consolidation.
- Collaborates with program staff in determining trends and resolving technical problems.
- Serves as a liaison to staff, government agencies, or the general public to explain and provide technical assistance on program specifics and requirements.
- Coordinates, plans, develops, and monitors data, ad-hoc reports, and research projects.
- May attend meetings with AWARxE vendor and other organizations as needed.
- May serve as back-up to all other team staff and team functions as needed.
- May serve as lead trainer to other team personnel.
- May prepare and provide presentations to professional organizations, governmental entities, and the public on topics relating to Prescription Monitoring Program.
- Determines work priorities and schedules time accordingly.
- Complies with all agency personnel policies, including regular attendance.
- Performs related work and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of laws and rules governing the practice of pharmacy and controlled substances; agency policies and procedures; practices of general pharmacy operations; and basic customer service principles and techniques.
Skill in the use of standard office equipment, computers, and computer software, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access; Adobe Acrobat, Tableau; creating comprehensive reports using data from other programs, and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts and data; to devise solutions to problems; to proofread, edit, prepare reports, and check work for accuracy; to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing; to provide guidance and train others; to maintain confidential and sensitive information; to manage multiple priorities concurrently and meet deadlines; and to work independently.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited four‐year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to the assignment is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
- Experience using spreadsheets and/or databases to analyze data and prepare analytical reports
- Experience in a pharmacy licensed by Texas is preferred.
- Experience in administrative or regulatory work involving prescription drugs is preferred.
License Required: None
If registered as a pharmacy technician, must possess a current registration certificate and be in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
Environment/Physical Conditions

Conditions of Employment
Upon employment, all persons hired will be required to complete state and/or national fingerprint identification checks. Employees must be eligible, as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety, to access criminal history records. Felony convictions and certain misdemeanor convictions will cause ineligibility. Upon employment, employees must be able to pass the required online CJIS class regarding the security of criminal records.
