Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical Engineer

ENGINEERING SERVICES DESCRIPTION:
 
The Federal Aviation Administration Engineering Services Group provides the specialized workforce to modernize, sustain and integrate Air Traffic Control Systems into the National Airspace System.  The FAA is looking for Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Environmental Engineers to design, build and transition to the Next Generation Air Transportation System. The FAA has a major impact on the safety and efficiency of the world’s biggest and busiest aviation system.
 
These engineering positions are assigned to a Construction/Installation Center located at Kansas City, Missouri; Chicago, Illinois; or Fort Worth, Texas. These positions involve extensive travel across the central part of the United States. Field assignments can range from 1 week to 1 year at a specific location. Employees are compensated for airfare, mileage, meals, lodging, and incidental expenses associated with the travel.
The typical civil and electrical engineering work includes overseeing construction of FAA’s facilities and equipment projects as a Resident Engineer. The typical electronics engineering work is hands-on and includes installing, optimizing, and integrating equipment within our FAA systems. The typical FAA facilities include Airport Traffic Control Towers, Air Route Traffic Control Centers, Radar/Weather/Surveillance Systems, Navigation Facilities, Communication Systems, and associated Infrastructure.  
Entry level Resident Engineers work towards independently overseeing construction projects at airports or remote locations; they conduct field inspections to review contractor work for conformance to conditions and specifications, accepting/rejecting work; assist contractors in interpreting specifications; coordinating activities with other engineers, FAA offices, airport personnel and associated entities. The work environment is typical of a construction site. On occasion the work may include lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, working in a confined space, and/or extreme weather conditions.
