Akron Community Internship: Akron Promise Student Support Intern

Akron Promise  facilitates success in our city, our schools, and our families such that Akron is the community of choice to live, work, and educate our children. We do this by helping students and families access appropriate educational supports, resources, and opportunities. We facilitate connections, scholarships, and enrichment activities that improve education opportunities, and we advocate for students and families. Akron Promise continues to implement direct programs for students such as the score with STEM day with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Garfield CLC Student Support, Garfield CLC College Scholarship and College Student Mentoring.

Position Title: Student Support Intern

Type: Part-time (average 5 hours per week, fluctuating with seasonal requirements and intern availability)

Location:

  • Akron, OH 
  • Work location will be in various locations in Akron depending on need.  Typical places would be
    • Bounce Innovation Hub (available for Akron Promise Related work as needed
    • 647 Coffee - Friday Morning “Study Tables” with Akron Promise Scholarship students (can be adjusted based on Intern schedule)
    • Locations of each City Series Race and “Packet Pickup”
    • University of Akron Library or Student Center
    • Stark State College, Akron

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Akron Promise, Inc., a non-profit entity serving the Akron community seeks a candidate that has a passion for working with and peer mentoring high school and college students. The intern will provide consistent and efficient support to each individual served within our programs. The responsibilities of this position include documenting student interactions, meeting with students regularly, understanding student needs and working with the founders of Akron Promise to determine how best to serve the student needs.
  • Score with STEM Coordination - The intern will assist with coordination of the Score with STEM event to be held on Sunday, March 16 from 10 AM to 11 PM.  This event will transport up to 50 students and chaperones to Rocket Mortgage Field House for a STEM Fair, a short tour of Downtown Cleveland, Dinner at Tower City, and ending with a Cavs game.
  • The intern will also assist with the organization and support of the Akron Promise City Series.  The chosen candidate will be expected to attend each of the City Series Races (tentative dates are here) to assist with talking about the city series and Akron Promise with the event attendees.
  • The ideal candidate will, for the most part, make their own schedule and shape the role to fit their skill sets and desires.
