2025 Residential Summer Staff Program Coordinator/Supervisor
Job Summary: Kirkmont Center is currently recruiting candidates to supervise summer camp staff and operations. This may include (but is not limited to) camp activities, waterfront activities (pond and pool) music, kitchen, housekeeping, cleaning, and other duties as assigned to provide an engaging and positive experience for campers. This person will work also remotely (or onsite if possible) to assist the Executive Director with summer staff recruitment (both residential and hourly) and preparation for staff training. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Our ideal candidate will have backgrounds in camp, outdoor recreation programs, classroom teaching, or environmental education programs. We also look for folks who see employment with us as a natural step towards a career in camp, outdoor and environmental education, or hospitality.

Summer Preparation and Staff Recruitment (Remote or Onsite with Negotiable Dates): February 15, 2025 – May 25, 2025
Staff Training (Attendance is Mandatory): May 26, 2025 – June 6, 2025
Summer Overnight Camps: June 1, 2025 – August 2, 2025
Summer Day Camps: June 2, 2025 – August 15, 2025
Some staff will be needed on weekends from August through September
Duties: This is a leadership position that is focused on the well-being of campers and staff. The Summer Staff and Program Supervisor will play a pivotal role in ensuring memorable and enriching experiences for our campers, as well as a vital role in fostering a positive and harmonious work environment for our dedicated team members.
Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Kirkmont Center Executive Director. This position supervises all paid summer staff including, but not limited waterfront, kitchen, cleaning, program, and maintenance staff. Volunteers are supervised by volunteer weekly camp directors.
Campers:
- You’ll be responsible for planning and coordinating daily camp activities that engage and entertain a large group of campers. While we do have multiple pre-planned camp activities, we strongly encourage creative programming. You’ll ensure that large-group activities are fully planned out, effectively communicated and safely executed.
- You’ll manage the inventory of program supplies, ensuring timely communication with the Executive Director for ordering and restocking. This includes inventory monitoring of an archery/axe throwing range, arts and crafts, paper products, camp t-shirts, first aid supplies, and outdoor education material.
- This role includes monitoring of overall camper wellbeing, as well as addressing behaviors when counselors require support; employing effective strategies to address issues before they require intervention from the Weekly Volunteer Camp Director and/or Kirkmont Center Executive Director
Summer Staff:
- Recruitment begins as early as possible. This can be done remotely. You will be working with the Executive Director to recruit folks with a passion for the outdoors and a love of working with kids.
- Working with the Executive Director you will help develop and implement staff training to ensure staff are well prepared. Staff members will receive dynamic, intensive training and learn the ins and outs of Kirkmont Center's policies, games, facilitation, behavior management, culture, and how to care for campers.
- Assigning and scheduling staff to facilitate activities, cleaning, kitchen duties, etc...
- Your responsibilities encompass monitoring and bolstering staff morale by infusing each day with the unique magic that makes camp at Kirkmont special. This can be achieved through fun surprises such as delivering sweet treats, granting camp wishes, or something as simple as playing their favorite song in the dining hall.
- Handling staff disputes with tact and diplomacy, you help to ensure a collaborative and productive atmosphere.
- If concerning/poor staff performance is observed, ensuring that pre-outlined disciplinary procedures are followed and documented. Notifying and collaborating with the Executive Director where necessary.
- Conducting periodic evaluations with the Executive Director, you will provide positive and constructive feedback to support their growth and success.
- Prepare for and lead staff training and daily meetings;
- Be present and lead by example in all assigned aspects of camp including but not limited to all meals, rest time, evening activities, vespers, daily assigned activities, and daily assigned duties;
- Ensure all tasks are performed at a high quality to provide a positive experience for guests,
- campers, and volunteers of Kirkmont Center; ensure a safe environment by abiding by all policies and procedures, which follow American Camp Association Standards;
- Be welcoming and inclusive to families, pastors, church coordinators, volunteers, campers and fellow staff; cleaning:
- Ensure that all program areas are cleaned daily, and all camper and staff
- accommodations are cleaned weekly;
- Help design weekly camp programs and evening activities;
- Help ensure check-in process goes smoothly,
- Greet and welcome campers each day;
- Orient all campers to camp rules and responsibilities on the first day; Provide daily support/backup for summer counselors;
- Model the Kirkmont Center culture through caring and responsible actions and attitude
Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years old; strong interpersonal and communication skills; strength and endurance to maintain effective supervision of summer staff and campers and perform duties as assigned; ability and willingness to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures; ability to remain calm under stress and respond efficiently and effectively in emergencies; ability and willingness to work both independently and as a member of a high-functioning team; self-motivation, flexibility, and an ability and willingness to work well under supervision; ability and willingness to work with individuals from a variety of ages and demographics; ability and willingness to observe and assess camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques; enthusiasm; sense of humor; patience; self-control; emotional intelligence and maturity; excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Valid driver’s license; current CPR, AED, and/or First Aid certification; current lifeguard certification; background in camp, outdoor recreation programs, classroom teaching, or environmental education programs, prior supervisory experience.
Work Schedule: Summer staff are expected to be on-site and ready to work by 1pm every Sunday until 1pm the following Saturday; average workday is 8-12 hours with breaks provided; any requests for scheduled time off need to be provided to the Executive Director at least 2 weeks in advance (exceptions will be made for emergencies).
Compensation: Salary begins at $400/week and is negotiable based on education and experience; meals (at times when meals are being served at Kirkmont as part of a program); housing in Goodrich Lodge (www.kirkmontcenter.org/lodging/);
