Social Media Intern

Position Overview:

We are looking for a creative, driven Social Media Intern to support and enhance IPI’s social media presence. This role will play a key part in expanding our reach, building brand awareness and engaging a broader scientific community, particularly undergraduate students and beyond. The ideal candidate is passionate about biological sciences, with a keen interest in social media and science communication. You will help create content that translates complex scientific concepts into accessible, engaging material that resonates with diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Strategy & Creation: Collaborate with the IPI Communications Team to develop and execute social media strategies that align with our mission, enhancing our visibility and impact in the field of protein science.
  • Research & Trend Analysis: Investigate social media trends, best practices and strategies from similar organizations to inform and improve audience engagement.
  • Engagement with Science: Attend IPI lab meetings, journal clubs and shadow IPI scientists to gain insights into our work on antibodies and efforts in neuroscience, helping to produce authentic and informative content.
  • Multimedia Content Creation: Design and publish compelling posts, stories, and videos across platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky) to communicate scientific ideas clearly and creatively.
  • Metrics Monitoring & Reporting: Track the performance of social media campaigns, provide data-driven insights and recommend improvements to increase engagement.
  • Collaboration & Innovation: Work closely with IPI's Communication and Research teams to brainstorm fresh ideas and strategies for expanding our digital footprint and fostering a thriving online community.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (or currently pursuing) in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Social Media or a related field.
  • Scientific Exposure: Familiarity with biological sciences, whether through coursework or relevant experiences.
  • Social Media Proficiency: Solid understanding of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X) and how to leverage them for audience engagement.
  • Graphic Design Skills: Proficiency with tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences.
  • Research & Creativity: Ability to conduct thorough research and present findings effectively through various media formats (text, audio, or video).
  • Attention to Detail: Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Positive & Collaborative Attitude: Enthusiastic, eager to learn and enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
  • Bonus Skills: Experience or coursework in public relations, marketing, photography, or videography is a plus.
  • Work Schedule: Available to work in-person at least three days a week. The remaining days can be remote.
