Psychiatric TMS Technician
Hours for this role are Monday - Friday, 730a-4p
Psychiatric Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Technician administers TMS treatments under the supervision of Psychiatrist. The TMS Technician sets up equipment for each treatment and ensures patient comfort and monitors for safety. Also provides questionnaires to monitor physical or emotional changes and reports information to the physician.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Assists in the observation, planning, interventions, and evaluation of care to patients within the area assigned pursuant to the policies and procedures of PrairieCare
- Learns and operates Brainsway TMS machine independently on a daily basis
- Ensures safety of patients and staff by constantly monitoring for potential safety hazards and reports issues appropriately
- Responsible for creating a therapeutic and healing environment that provides the best care and the best patient experience
- Communicates with patients that come from all backgrounds with kindness, humor, and relatability
- Communicates effectively with patients by phone and computer, to answer patient questions about TMS process, and explain expectations.
- Completes documentation in a timely manner. Effectively operates the EHR system, including charting, bill entry, and scheduling
- Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patients and families.
- Keeps the exam rooms organized by notifying the correct individual when supplies are low and stocks the supplies. Monitors the exam rooms to ensure tidiness and cleanliness
- Knowledgeable of and performs safe infection control practices including good hand hygiene, standard precautions, cleaning equipment and the environment. Monitors and helps to ensure tidiness and cleanliness in the patient care areas.
- Performs clerical functions as directed, and performs other duties as assigned
- Oriented and educated in gender, cultural differences, and in age-appropriate care for the assigned area
- Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient's developmental age and to the patient's and family's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Monitors own level of expertise continuously using ongoing self-assessments. Collaborates with team, seeks timely advice, and gives and always accepts feedback to ensure safe patient care
- Works under the direct supervision of the TMS physician
Qualifications:
- Associate degree required or 2 years academic or behavioral health experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Requires experience in mental health and an aptitude to learn new technologies and modalities in Neurotherapeutics
- Brainsway TMS Certification required, on-the-job certification provided
- BLS/CPR certification required
- Required to be knowledgeable of area of assignment
- Display a professional attitude in all aspects of performance
- Ability to work independently while also enjoying a team atmosphere
- Ability to document in an Electronic Health Record accurately and legibly
- Ability to use Microsoft Office products, fax machine and copier machine required
- Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
- Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations
- Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances
- After training, be able to manage disruptive and explosive patients.
Pay range for this position is $22.06 to $28.84 depending on education and experience.
