Through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local agencies, we bring transformative experiences to students in underserved communities.
Position Summary:
We are seeking passionate and energetic Outreach Instructors to join our team. In this role, you will deliver interactive, science-based, and outdoor programming to LAUSD students, inspiring them to connect with the environment and develop skills that foster personal and academic growth. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic teaching environment and are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on marine science-based lessons that align with California state science standards.
- Conduct outreach activities, including presentations, workshops, and community events, to promote environmental education and awareness.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with LAUSD teachers, administrators, and community partners to expand program reach.
- Support program logistics, including setup and breakdown of materials, transportation, and event coordination.
- Collect and report data on program participation and outcomes.
- Contribute to the design and improvement of curriculum and teaching resources.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, marine biology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience teaching or working with K-12 students, preferably in outdoor or environmental education.
- Strong communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for environmental education and community outreach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Have reliable transportation, and willing to commute to the various LAUSD locations.
- Ability to pass a Live Scan.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with LAUSD and the communities it serves is highly desirable.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is highly desirable.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of California’s coastal and marine ecosystems.
- Experience with kayaking, snorkeling, or other waterfront activities.
Work Environment:
This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, occasional evening/weekend events, and traveling to different LAUSD school sites.
