College Intern - GAR Museum

The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position of College Intern in the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Military Museum in the Community Services Department.

Under the general supervision of the G.A.R. Museum Director or designee, the College Intern is responsible for developing and implementing an exhibit or educational program. The College Intern will be responsible for the full project management cycle (research, development, project timeline, meetings, implementation, and quality improvement) of the developed program. Interested candidates must have a passion for military history and museology.

Duties will include but are not limited to: Assist with various projects related to museum operations, such as digitization of the collection, exhibit installation, collection management projects; Conduct independent research on subject matter within the scope of the museum and develop an exhibit or educational program; Present final project; Assist with identification of and support opportunities to engage the whole community and partner to foster best practices and strategic approaches to curatorial practices, educational programming, and museum sciences; Support the G.A.R. Museum Director through other duties as assigned, as time allows.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program in museum studies, history, public history, or a related field at a college or university, or have graduated within the previous six months.
  • Must be in good standing with the college/university currently enrolled in and have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 or higher scale.
  • Requires interest in ability to occasionally work outside of normal business hours and in alternate locations (approximately 20%).
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Bilingual, Spanish Speaking, is preferred

Hourly wage is $16.95/hr. This is a part-time, seasonal position. Internship opportunities are available for the 2025 Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.
