Mechanical Engineering Intern

Job Summary
As a Mechanical Engineering intern at Ascential, you will be responsible for assisting in the design of equipment, tooling, fixtures etc. used in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies for industrial automation. The ideal candidate will be someone interested in pursuing a career in engineering design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems for assembly equipment and end-of-line test stations.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to create detailed CAD models and drawings.
  • Participate in the prototyping and testing of mechanical systems to ensure they meet performance and quality standards.
  • Support the analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues during the assembly phase.
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing designs and processes.
  • Assist with creating documentation such as engineering standards, checklists, best practices and lessons learned documents.
  • Document design changes, test results, and project progress in technical reports.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to integrate mechanical systems with other components.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an associate degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD. Inventor).  We use Solidworks
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship experience in the automotive or industrial automation industry.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Experience with prototyping and hands-on testing.
