
LHSI Intern: Social media intern, IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center
Program Summary:
This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IU Indianapolis undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2025 and end in May 2026 and are paid $13/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Overview of the internship site: As a social media intern at our comprehensive cancer center, you'll help share impactful stories and groundbreaking research to engage and inform our community. In this role, you'll work alongside our experienced communications team to create compelling content that raises awareness about cancer research. You'll learn how to craft posts for various platforms and contribute to campaigns that highlight the innovative work being done at our center. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills in digital marketing and communications while making a meaningful impact on our community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Assist in developing engaging and informative content for social media platforms, including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn. This includes writing posts and capturing photos and videos.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the social media and digital communications manager and the communications team to gather content ideas and ensure messaging aligns with our center's goals and values.
- Community Engagement: Foster a sense of community by engaging with followers, responding to inquiries, and encouraging conversations around cancer awareness and prevention.
- Event Support: Support the promotion of events and initiatives through social media. Attend events to capture content and provide live updates when needed.
Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed primarily in an office setting with dress code business casual. When visiting labs, you must wear closed toed shoes.

- Basic Social Media Knowledge: Familiarity with major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn) and an understanding of how they are used for marketing and communication.

LHSI Qualifications
must be graduating May 2027 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2025)
Current full time IU Indianapolis undergraduate in 2025-26
minimum overall GPA of 2.0
