Summer Internship Opportunity with the NYS Courts

Position Title: Summer Internship Opportunity with the NYS Courts (Student Aide I)
 

Location: Multiple positions across New York State (NYC, Albany, Schenectady, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, Buffalo, White Plains, Mineola, and Central Islip)

Compensation: $18.00/hour

Full-Time, Temporary (July 7 – August 13, 2025)

 

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility:
    • College students, high school students, recent high school graduates (within the last 2 years).
    • Applicants must be 17 years or older as of July 7, 2025.
    • Applicants under 18 must obtain an employment certificate (working papers).
    • Applicants under 17 years of age as of the program start date will not qualify.

Program Overview:

The New York State Courts is dedicated to delivering equal justice under the law and ensuring timely, fair, and just resolution of legal matters. To promote civic education and career readiness, NYS Courts offers a Summer Internship Program designed to enhance students’ understanding of the court system and its role in government.

Through this program, interns will:

  • Gain hands-on experience and career-relevant insights into the workings of the judiciary.
  • Learn about the roles and responsibilities of judges, attorneys, court clerks, court officers, and other court professionals.
  • Develop an understanding of civil, family, and criminal justice systems.
  • Acquire professional and ethical practices aligned with the NYS Code of Conduct for employees.

Interns will work closely with experienced professionals, participate in meaningful court operations, and deepen their knowledge of the judiciary while exploring potential career paths in public service.

Program Details:

  • Assignment Locations:
    Interns will be placed at one of the following:
    • District Offices: Albany, Schenectady, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, Buffalo, White Plains, Mineola, and Central Islip
    • NYC Chief Clerk’s Offices
    • Office of Court Administration (Albany or NYC)
  • Program Dates:
    July 7, 2025 – August 13, 2025
  • Preferred Candidates:
    Students with an interest in the justice system or legal professions are encouraged to apply. Those from economically disadvantaged or underserved communities are strongly urged to submit an application.

    • Describe an obstacle you faced in life or school and how you overcame it.
