Summer Program Instructor
Organizational Overview:
TECH CORPS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that K-12 students have equitable access to programs, skills, and resources that enrich early learning and equip them for success. TECH CORPS develops technology programs and deploys tech-savvy talent to assist K-12 students and teachers. TECH CORPS programs are categorized into Awareness, Exploration, and Immersion, and guide students through a comprehensive technology pathway. This trajectory aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge, paving the way for success in higher education, industry credentials, or future careers.
Position: Summer Program Instructor, (Temporary/Seasonal)
TECH CORPS is currently recruiting knowledgeable instructors to implement programs that run for one week or two weeks long in different areas across the country. Below are details about the positions.
Dates: Programs will run from June 2n through August 15th. Instructors can decide which program they are most interested in and available for based on their schedule.
Time: Programs will run from 9am-3pm or 9am-4pm depending on the program. Instructors are onsite at least 30 minutes before and after the program.
Salary: $25 per hour plus paid training time
Locations: TECH CORPS programs will be offered via partnerships with colleges/universities, K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations in Central and Northeast, OH; Metro Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; and Greater Minneapolis, MN.
Qualifications: TECH CORPS Instructors should possess the following:
- Passion (for the mission of the organization), Creativity, and Initiative
- Knowledge and/or experience leading, mentoring, or teaching groups
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban students is a plus
- Programming (C++, C#, Java, Python)Computer Science, Engineering, or IT experience/major/degree preferred but not required
Content Knowledge: TECH CORPS Instructors should have experience with the following (depends on the program):
- Programming/coding (SwiftUI is a plus)
- Graphic Arts and 2D and/or 3D Video Game Design
- 3D Printing platforms (e.g. TinkerCAD, SketchUp)
- Web development, web administration and web design skills including but not limited to HTML, CSS, PHP,CMS (WordPress, Drupal and Joomla), SEO, MySQL, video and graphics software
- Experience using different hosting panels (cPanel)
- Experience with open-source software, including image, audio, video manipulation, web authoring andprogramming environments
- Tech support, hardware, CompTIA
Responsibilities: TECH CORPS Summer Instructors will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all day-to-day aspects of their respective program, including but not limited to:
- Attend training session prior to program start date
- Familiarize and become an expert on program materials (software & hardware)
- Review lessons/activities prior to the program and have full understanding of the curriculum in relation to students
- Have the ability to explain complex ideas to students in a language they can relate to and understand
- Create a safe program environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
- Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
- Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
- Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
- Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program
