F/T International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator

APEX International Education Partners ("APEX") was established in 2011 to assist U.S. secondary educational institutions with the recruitment and hosting of international students. Our goal is to promote greater diversity in U.S. high schools, facilitate cultural awareness among American and international students, and ease the process of living and learning abroad.

International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator (RLC)

APEX is seeking a professional and reliable full-time Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) for our international middle-school and high-school student dormitory located in Derby, Connecticut. The Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for the development and oversight of a program that provides enriching social experiences both on and off-campus. The Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) supports student engagement and partners with the Director of Residential Life & Operations regularly.

Job Responsibilities:

This Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) will be responsible for working closely with our students, Resident Assistants (RAs)/Dorm Parents and other Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs) to ensure the overall safety, well-being, engagement and academic success of our international students living in the dormitory. These responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Student Activities, Engagement and Support:

  • Implement programming to foster life skills and community living.
  • Support student leadership initiatives and cultivate partnerships.
  • Hold regular 1-on-1 and student group meetings, and facilitate dorm community programs.
  • Design, implement and attend a diverse range of enriching, fun and engaging activities both on and off-campus.
  • Plan and lead events, activities, and programs that promote cultural exchange, teamwork, and community bonding.
  • Assist with organization of and chaperoning on and off campus volunteer and other activities and events.
  • Advise students on community service hours/projects and organize events.

Student Welfare and Safety:

  • Enforce dormitory policies and address violations or conflicts, completing and updating Incident Reports, when necessary.
  • Conduct bi-weekly Health & Safety Inspections of student rooms.
  • Monitor student behavior, ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Mediate conflicts between students to foster a positive and respectful living atmosphere.
  • Respond to and resolve student concerns or issues promptly.

Academic and Community Support:

  • Assist with student academic, behavioral, and social issues.
  • Be aware of students' academic progress and offering assistance when necessary.
  • Offer guidance on personal, social, or emotional challenges students may face.
  • Prepare and file student monthly status reports to be shared with parents abroad.
  • Coordinate student school calendars and birthdays.

Administrative and Collaborative Tasks:

  • Use REACH Student Management app for attendance and event tracking.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and room assignments.
  • Collaborate with day-time staff and dormitory nurse for student well-being.
  • Participate in required medical, safety, and other trainings/drills.
  • Coordinate and proactively respond to group WeChat conversations with students and staff abroad and domestically.
  • Manage assigned projects and other duties as needed.

Emergency and Health Support:

  • Monitor absent students during the day and follow up as necessary.
  • Schedule and accompany students to doctor's appointments when required.
  • Provide transportation to appointments and assist in emergency situations.
  • Act as the primary contact during drills and emergencies.

Communication and Outreach:

  • Maintain visibility and availability to students in corridors and common areas.
  • Communicate regularly with domestic & international staff through WeChat with event updates and photos.

Assist in providing transportation:

  • Provide student transportation to various medical appointments, hospital facilities, special events and other activities, when needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree required. Advanced degree (or in the process of getting an Advanced Degree) in Education or related discipline preferred.

Fluency in both English and Mandarin required.

Experience in education, caring for high school aged children, and/or prior experience as a senior Resident Advisor in a dormitory/boarding school setting, International Residential Life Coordinator or Student Coordinator is preferred. The successful candidate will possess a lively and outgoing demeanor, easily capable of forming connections with our students, involving them in all of our activities, and supporting their growth. Demonstrate excellent decision-making skills, strong leadership qualities, and possess sensitivity for the welfare of their international middle school and high school student residents.

Staff must undergo and pass a national criminal, DCF and sex offender background and driving record check. Valid Driver's License, 3+ years exp. and reliable transportation required.

Job Type Full-Time (40hrs/week), Salaried, Exempt, Year-Round including summers.

Schedule Tuesday- Saturday, 9AM-5:30PM. Additional days/hours when needed.

Work Location On-Site Dormitory/Office of Residential Life (Derby, CT). Note: NO live-in residence offered. Proximity to Derby, CT preferred.
