Shelter and Community Services Internship

Shelter and Community Services Internship *All Positions have been filled for Fall '25*

Work with victims at Community Center to provide support, referrals and information about agency services. Focus at this site is our crisis hotline, counseling, case management and residential services. Experiential learning tasks include:

  • Answering phones/staffing front desk at EBC Community Center, assessing caller needs and directing to appropriate staff
  • Providing crisis support and information on the phone
  • Performing shelter pre-screenings, screenings and intakes
  • Assisting staff in community-based projects (e.g., multidisciplinary committees and workgroups; outreach activities)
  • Working with staff to develop a project to enhance learning (may focus on research, outreach and awareness, fund-raising, special events)

Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Successfully complete required EBCC training
  • Time commitment: Varies
  • Ability to be non-judgmental and open-minded
  • Ability to problem-solve utilizing critical thinking skills
  • Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position
