Job Description

INTERN, ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Hourly Wage: $26.00 | Anticipated Start Date: May 27, 2025

 

The Electrical Engineering Intern is responsible to assist the Electrical Engineering and the Substation Design Departments in the study, design, documentation, and implementation of various protection, metering, control and physical design projects. 

 

The Impact You'll Make In This Role:

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.    Provide assistance in maintenance of DPC’s fault and protection modeling software. 

 

2.    Assist with current projects that may include research, creation of working drawings, engineering calculations and completion of as-built documents.

 

3.    Assist in ground grid design and testing.

 

4.    Assist with substation real and reactive power studies.

 

5.    Assist in transmission substation protection and control design and drafting.

 

6.    Assist in transmission and distribution substation physical design and drafting.

 

7.    Provide assistance as directed for compliance related activities.

 

8.    Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Your Experience and Expertise:

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:  Student pursuing a field in electrical engineering.  Prefer basic three-phase power knowledge or experience. Power production and transmission knowledge is beneficial.

 

Skills:  Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), and computer competencies notably using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc). Ability to communicate effectively written and verbally.

 

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License.

 

Physical Demands:  Sitting and walking.  Operate personal computer telephone and general office supplies such as pens, stapler, etc.

 

Environmental Demands:  Will reside mainly in an office environment with occasional visits to substations, switching stations or generation stations.

 

Other Job Characteristics:  Occasionally interacts with other utilities, plant and maintenance personnel and vendors.  Work under limited supervision in a variably paced, variable pressure work setting.  Must be able to work in a team-oriented setting.
