Development Specialist Internship

Title: Development Specialist Internship (Virtual with In-Person Events)

Location: DMV, New Jersey, New York, or Atlanta Areas

Duration: 9 Months | Commitment: 5-10 Hours Per Week

What You Can Expect

This 9-month virtual internship is designed to provide you with real-world experience in fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, and nonprofit development. You will:

  • Research and identify funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships.
  • Collaborate on writing compelling proposals to secure funding.
  • Learn best practices in donor cultivation, stewardship, and communications.
  • Build a professional portfolio showcasing your skills and accomplishments.
  • Access upskilling courses to refine your abilities and knowledge.
  • Participate in in-person networking and professional events in your region (DMV, NJ, NY, or Atlanta).

While this is an unpaid internship, a stipend will be provided upon successful completion of the program.

Responsibilities

As a Development Specialist Intern, you’ll:

  • Research grant opportunities, sponsorships, and partnerships.
  • Draft grant proposals and funding applications.
  • Develop communication materials for donor outreach and stewardship.
  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns or events.
  • Maintain donor and prospect records in an organized and professional manner.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to create innovative development strategies.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (or equivalent) and familiarity with donor databases is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to craft clear and compelling narratives.
  • A proactive, positive, and adaptable attitude.
