REQ-171172 Fish and Wildlife Technician (Underfill Option)

This is a full time, Limited Duration position with an anticipated start date of February 1, 2025 through June 30, 2025.

As a Fish and Wildlife Technician, at the Salmon River Hatchery in Otis, Oregon, you will perform a variety of skilled technical and manual labor duties related to the protection, preservation, or propagation of fish and wildlife species, and the preservation or enhancement of species habitat. These duties include:

  • Fish Rearing
  • Handling of adult salmon and steelhead
  • Incubation and egg handling
  • Water systems maintenance and operations
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Complete daily and monthly records, forms, and written reports to document fish culture and maintenance activities
  • Conduct hatchery tours

The goal of this recruitment is to fill the positions at the Fish & Wildlife Technician (FWT) level. However, we encourage candidates to apply for the Fish & Wildlife Technician Entry level ($3,218 - $3,948/mo.) as the department may consider under-filling the position.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Fish and Wildlife Technician ($3477 - $4755):

An Associate's degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture or Aquarium Science;

-OR-

Eighteen months of fish culture (care of fish) experience. Six months of fisheries, fish screens, wildlife or related habitat work experience will count toward fish culture (care of fish) experience


Equivalency Notes:

A higher-level degree in Fisheries Science or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate's degree.

 

Fish and Wildlife Technician Entry Option ($3218 - $3948):

Minimum qualifications are not established for this classification (there are no minimum qualifications). Previous related experience is desirable.

 

*Note: this position will receive a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase of 6.55% which is not reflected in the salary listed in this posting. The effective date of the increase is January 1, 2025 for February 1, 2025 paychecks.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
