Job Description and Duties

Interested in an opportunity to join a dynamic and diverse team at the Genetics Research Unit in the Wildlife Health Laboratory. Learn more about this unique limited-term position! Under supervision of the Environmental Program Manager I of the Wildlife Health Laboratory, the incumbent will plan, organize, and carry out scientific research studies of limited scientific scope and complexity; may serve as a team member on scientific projects and investigations or act as a technical scientific consultant on a specific phase of a more complex scientific study; make independent decisions in a very limited or restricted area of genetics; solve problems using standard principles, procedures, and techniques for genetics when fully trained. Will be responsible for generating and interpreting genomic data sets suitable for assessing genetic varation among American badger (Taxidea taxus). This is a full-time limited term position for 2 years, 40 hours/week position. The position may become permanent.

This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.

Working Conditions

This position spends about 75% of the day working in a fixed location at a desk with a computer. The reminder the time will be spent on general bench work in the lab. Workdays may include weekends, odd hours, and be time sensitive. Computer work requires using a keyboard frequently. Laboratory bench work involves sitting for several hours a day but may involve walking or standing for brief periods, using laboratory instruments, such as pipets. Ability to lift heavy and irregular items (up to 40 lbs.) required. Possession of a valid driver license required. Must attend occasional meetings. In addition to working with Sacramento-based staff, may interact with regional staff via e-mail and telephone.

This is a full-time limited term position for 2 years. The position may become permanent.
