Program Assistant
Position Purpose
Program Assistants (PAs) are employed by The Davidson Group, a Nevada corporation and affiliate of the Davidson Institute (DI), to supervise student attendees throughout the duration, including residing on campus at specified location, of Davidson Summer Programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Not necessarily in order of priority but include the following. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions.
- Supervise students in the dorms, at meals, and all activities.
- Accompany students to all meals, sessions, and activities around campus.
- Provide assistance, encouragement and guidance with students’ daily routines.
- Be concerned for the social adjustment of each student.
- Ability to participate in the daily physical activities.
- Communicate students’ health needs and report any injuries or concerns immediately to the Health Supervisor and staff.
- Ability to quickly respond to emergency situations such as administering CPR, First Aid, or obtaining an AED machine.
- Address student behavior according to the policies and guidelines presented at staff training.
- Assist in planning and carry out daily activities as assigned.
- Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial role model to students.
- Work with leadership staff members to troubleshoot areas of difficulty or concern.
- Maintain ongoing, daily communication with summer team.
- Participate in daily staff meeting.
- Reside on the University of Nevada, Reno campus residential halls for the duration of the programs.
- Adhere to dress code and code of conduct outlined in staff training.
- Attend one seminar during homework time to assist with classroom management, note student progress, and offer study support (Sessions Two & Four only).
Additional Position Requirements:
- Any and all transportation costs are the responsibility of the Program Assistant and are not eligible for reimbursement; free on-site parking will be provided daily.
- PAs are expected to follow policies regarding appropriate dress and personal hygiene. Appropriate behavior is required at all times, and any behavior of a sexual nature is strictly prohibited. Use of alcohol, tobacco or other controlled substances prior to coming on shift or during your shift is also strictly prohibited.
- Outside guests are not permitted in the residence halls, at the Davidson Academy of Nevada or at any Davidson Summer Program related events.

Qualifications:
- Ability to work well with children ages 8 to 13
- Accompany students to all program events and activities
- Skillful at working as a team member with other Program Assistants and leadership staff
- Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to learn
- Reside in the University of Nevada, Reno residential halls throughout the program dates
- Attendance required on all training and program days
- Experience in a residential or camp setting is a plus
Work Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to walk up to 2 miles without stopping.
- Ability to sit for up to 5 hours at most per shift.
- Ability to lift and move tables, chairs, and supplies (up to 25 pounds).
- Ability to stand for up for a minimum of 30 minutes up to several hours.
- Ability to participate in program physical activities that include jumping, running, crawling, kneeling, etc.
- Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time during summer conditions
- Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities
- Verification of passing hiring paperwork (background check and drug screening)
- Proof of CPR and First Aid Certification valid during program dates (Reimbursement provided if taking CPR class in March through June 2025)
- Experience in a residential or camp setting is a plus
- University of Nevada, Reno student/alumni is preferred
- On-site attendance is considered an essential function of the job unless this job description references otherwise.
- Complete pre-training reading/activities, if assigned
