Summary

Campus Activities Programming Board (CAPB) Committee Chairs plan and execute committee events with Event Staff. Committee Chairs work with others to generate innovative programming initiatives and events that appeal to a wide variety of students. This position requires excellent attention to detail, communication skills, willingness to learn and a passion for student programming at Mizzou.

The Culture and Belonging Programming committee works to plan and promote events that celebrate cultures and other diverse student backgrounds on campus.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare Event Staff to successfully execute committee events by presenting event ideas to peers; setting up the sound system; managing student talent; managing professional talent; delegating jobs to Event Staff; managing crowds; and working efficiently in all venues
  • Plan and direct regular committee meetings
  • Reserve needed space and equipment; submit event proposals; and create event maps
  • Serve as a liaison between Executive Board and Event Staff via communication of goals and policies
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing to find co-sponsorship opportunities
  • Work with co-sponsors to execute traditional and novel events
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Assistant to create new or surprising ways to increase student event attendance
  • Maintain awareness of committee budget and spending

Additional Responsibilities

  • Educate, recruit, retain and inform potential and current members of the CAPB
  • Ensure the committee’s behavior and programs reflect the mission of the CAPB
  • Maintain knowledge of campus climate, interests and calendar to better serve the community

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires sitting/standing/moving between locations
  • Must be able to bend, squat and reach on occasion
  • Capable of lifting, moving and transporting materials on occasion
  • Duties imply the use of a computer and other office technology involving fine finger movements
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend verbal and written information/instruction

Anticipated Hiring Range

$14.15/hour paid on a biweekly basis

Shift

  • Hours vary based on department needs.  
  • Average hours per week: 6
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

 To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required as long as the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester.

Selection is contingent upon successful results of an Office for Civil Rights &Title IX and Office of Student Accountability & Support check, MU employment history check, and review by the office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional communication skills, strong organizational skills, good time-management skills and the ability to work with a variety of people
  • Previous experience working with or serving on the Campus Activities Programming Board preferred
  • Familiarity with Campus Activities Programming Board initiatives and programs
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally and articulately communicate in writing
