This is a Student Internship position under the Pathways Internship Program.
To qualify for this internship, you must be a continuing student enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the upcoming semester for the duration of the internship as a condition of employment (taking at least a "half time" course load). You will be required to provide documentation (transcript, enrollment certification, etc.) to support eligibility. Students may be employed throughout the academic year.

The Civil Engineer Pathways Student Intern will work under the supervision of experienced "Transportation Engineers." The Pathways Program is designed to introduce the selectee to the technical, administrative, and program management aspects of highway engineering at the Federal Highway Administration.
The intern will perform a variety of tasks selected to provide:
- Experience and training in the application of basic techniques used in the civil engineering profession, and growth in professional knowledge, skill, and ability.
- An introduction to the FHWA’s policies, programs, and procedures.
- An opportunity for management to discover the trainee’s aptitude, interests, and potential for advancement to more responsible assignments.
The goal for the Civil Engineer Pathways Student Intern is to develop progressive proficiency in Federal-aid Highway program management and technical expertise in functional areas normally performed in the Connecticut Federal-aid Highway Division. Specific emphasis will be placed upon the policies and procedures that ensure full consideration of Federal-aid Highway and Transportation Projects.

The ideal candidate for this position is a junior, senior, or post-graduate student with a Civil Engineering focus and an interest in road and highway funding, planning, design, and construction.
Additionally, the ideal candidate is passionate about civil engineering and enjoys a mix of office and field work.
