Position Title: Early Learning Assistant
Department: Education
Reports to: EG Director
Hours Per Week: Approximately 20 -25
Hourly Pay: $20

The Early Learning Assistant (ELA) will provide support, care, and implement education practices for children enrolled in the Early Growers early learning, nature based program. 

ELA will be guided by daily instructions of the Lead Teacher, in addition to learning and following best practices for compliance and optimal developmental growth. ELA will interact daily with children, parents, and community members. The ELA will be a significant contributor to day to day operations but will also have an opportunity to learn in an innovative, nature based, whole child focused environment.


Supervisory Responsibilities: None


● Providing support for the Lead Teacher.
● Monitoring and supervising the children constantly.
● Assisting the Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe and positive environment.
● Cultivating relationships with children, parents, and guardians.
● Alerting the Lead Teacher to emergencies.
● Preparing and serving meals and snacks.
● Greeting parents and addressing children by their name.
● Adhering to sanitation and health procedures based on mandated state and Early Growers standards.
● Assisting with learning engagement and activities.
● Assisting in putting children to sleep.
● Provide support for children to engage in outdoor environments throughout the seasonal year.


Childcare Assistant Requirements:
● High School Diploma or equivalent.
● First Aid/CPR Training recommended.
● On-the-job training recommended.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Must meet state-specific guidelines.


Experience:
● Previous experience working with young children ( babysitter, nanny, child care etc…)
● and/or enrolled in an undergraduate program focused on Early Childhood Education or Human/Child Development.
Student Learning Experience Through work in this position, the student may build skills in the following ways aligned with the IUI profiles:


Education acumen - Students will be exposed to a variety of ECE learning modalities and processes that focus on providing individualized instruction to diverse, young learners.
Students will experience the intersection of a nature based program, connected to an urban garden, immersed in a diverse, inner city community.


Problem Solver – The student will work with all members of the Early Growers and Kheprw Institute to work through a variety of systematic issues and challenges. The ELA will have voice and their perspective will be considered when solving collective problems


Innovator – We encourage our interns to ask questions and be curious. While we will have existing processes for the student to follow, we welcome new ideas and improvements on how to make our marketing and social media more effective.

We encourage ideas and concepts to be developed and implemented


Community Contributor – Students will be immersed in community and with community people. We expect students to be their authentic selves and to expect to add to the rich fabric of community people and relationships.
