Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collect field data for FO (Fiber Optic) equipment, enclosures, and route installations per ITSFM standard (Intelligent Transportation System Facility Management).
  • Verify installed field equipment data as related to ITSFM components: CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television), VDS (Vehicle Detection Systems), DMS (Dynamic Message Signs), meters, and other vehicle sensors & instruments.
  • Perform inspection and classification of various fiber optic cables, conduits, enclosures, cabinetry and splice junctions.
  • Reference FO drawings and schematics as required to navigate work sites and identify utilities.
  • Verify plans & schematics reflect true conditions of the field.
  • Enter associated GPS coordinates to associated field component using electronic GPS field equipment for the purpose of mapping, records, and ITSFM project deliverables.
  • Collect GPS data associated with installed fiber routes & mapped coordinate points at specified intervals.
  • Utilize a variety of GIS data & mapping software for deployed use in the field via tablets, laptops, and other mobile devices for the purpose of collecting FO utilities information.
  • Use company vehicles to drive to various work sites and operate devices for field data collection purposes.

Desired Qualifications & Requirements

  • Understanding and familiarity with GPS devices and associated software.
  • Experience with FO underground utilities and associated equipment along roadways.
  • A basic understanding of FO underground and aerial installation methods and equipment.
  • Familiarity with ITS devices, to include vehicle detection and traffic monitoring technologies associated with roadways and intersections.
  • Must be comfortable navigating various GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software applications, on a basic user level, for the purpose of field data collection and verification.
  • Be willing and able to test new GIS software as it is being developed.
  • Must have clean driving record and be comfortable with using driving to road construction sites throughout the Southeast US.
