JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Health Educator, K-12

SALARY RANGE: $45,000 base salary + Competitive Benefits package
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Health Educators are 10-month employees following the school calendar.
- Schedule and deliver all SNAP-Ed on-site direct services to assigned schools/centers/clubs.
- Deliver training for nutrition/physical activity direct education delivery to teachers/staff through model lessons, technical assistance and professional development.
- Deliver face to face and/or virtual training for the school/center teams and provide coaching on best practices for the topic areas in nutrition and physical activity.
- Provide civil rights training for any educator or “front-line” staff/volunteers who interact with SNAP-Ed participants.
- Ensure proper display of “And Justice for All” poster (version 475B) at all program locations.
- Provide all HealthMPowers student, school, center and family services.
- Participate as a School Health Team member for assigned schools, offering resources and support as appropriate.
- Provide regular interaction with school/center staff to support program delivery to students and families.
- Document work with each school/center to show progress toward accomplishment of program objectives and adoption of incremental behavior and PSE change.
- Collect project data as required.
- Provide technical assistance, resources and advice to assist schools/centers achieve their plans for nutrition/physical activity improvement based on their needs assessment results.
- Provide additional interactive training events, resources, and support for families.
- Provide training and lead programming for Student Health Advocates.
- Assist in conducting tri-annual trainings.
- Provide outstanding service and de-escalate issues where schools/centers/clubs are dissatisfied.
- Provide comprehensive documentation (a portfolio) for work with each school/center/club outlining communication, and provision of support for continuous improvement.
- Work closely with local schools’ parent engagement coordinator, Title 1 Coordinator and principal to recruit families and provide nutrition education opportunities for families at school and with at home programming.
- Reinforce family education programming and other family events/workshops.
- Provide nutrition education and physical activity information for families through field days, family fun nights, curriculum nights, open house and events other than PTA/PTO.
- Share knowledge with HealthMPowers staff for the benefit of our schools.
- Collect qualitative information from sites for creating success stories.
- Perform clerical and non-instructional assignments as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, nutrition, exercise science, public health or education background.
- Knowledge of K-12 education including nutrition and physical activity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience reviewing curriculum to ensure equity for all learners.
- A demonstrated commitment to equity.
- A commitment to producing high quality and detailed work.
- The ability to learn quickly, work in a fast paced environment and multi-task effectively.
- The ability to identify challenges and actively work to find solutions.
- The ability to manage and work effectively with others at all levels of an organization and to consistently display a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
- The ability to work well independently while collaborating with others on meeting common goals.
- Ability to lift, push, carry, or maneuver items up to 25 pounds.
- An ability to work non-standard hours and occasional weekends.
TRAVEL:
Some out-of-area and overnight travel is expected.
