Industrial Hygiene Specialist

Position Description: 

Colden is currently seeking an Industrial Hygiene (IH) Specialist with 0 to 3 years of experience in workplace health and safety for a full-time position based at a key client site in Niskayuna, New York. This individual will work under the direction of a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) as part of a team, including the client IH Leader and EHS Leader, supporting the site Industrial Hygiene program.  

Responsibilities may include: 

  • Perform IH monitoring as directed or outlined in the site plan. 
  • Draft written reports, reviewed and signed off by a CIH for all quantitative risk assessments. 
  • Maintain records using the company’s software interface 
  • Update the site IH program plan based on risk assessment and audit results 
  • Conduct IH focused inspections and audits to ensure regulatory compliance in a laboratory and industrial environment  
  • Support compliance activities for the cooling tower legionella management program 
  • Organize IH files and data and complete other assigned duties to support the site IH or EHS programs.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS), preferably in occupational health and safety, or environmental health or public health with industrial hygiene or safety focus (or a science or engineering degree and relevant work experience). 
  • Entry level to approximately 3 years of experience in health and safety roles. 
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and industrial hygiene exposure monitoring practices. 
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented with ability to manage workload independently in a fast-paced environment, with support from others.  
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.; this job opening does not sponsor individuals for employment visas.   

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience in a research & development or other laboratory environment. 
  • Familiarity with engineered nanomaterials. 
  • Familiarity with New York State codes and regulations for asbestos and legionella management. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
