Reports To: ­­­ Continuous Improvement Department

Summary: Under the direction of department management, intern exercises responsibility for execution of the company’s strategic and tactical plans through department and related staff. This position exercises independent judgment routinely and operates within established guidelines. Interns will be assigned to a project for the duration of the summer. The intern will be required to present final results to the management group. 

Qualified Applicants will possess the following:

  • Current student, pursuing bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, Quality Engineering or other equivalent engineering/mechanical technology.
  • Possess an understanding of mechanical assembly and testing procedures.
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Create detailed activity reports.
  • Comfortable with Excel and Microsoft products. 

Chief Duties and/or Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in eliminating any factors which raise costs and do not add value to products produced to achieve lean manufacturing.
  • Production floor process observations.
  • Data gathering including waste analysis, time studies, and process mapping.
  • Compile results from observations to drive data supported process improvements.
  • Possess an understanding of mechanical assembly and testing procedures.
  • Create detailed written instruction through observation.
  • Using tools such as: Yamazumi charts, cycle time sheets, capacity sheets, and value steam mapping.
