DEP Intern - Moshannon District Mining Office

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

 

 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with the mining program technical support section as well as the compliance section. You will perform field work as well as participate in the reviews of permit applications. Your field work will allow you to learn how mine sites are configured and about mining operations in general. You will use Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment to verify the locations of important surface features including acid mine discharges, among others. This documentation is essential for understanding the environmental impact of mining activities and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.


 

Your work with the technical support section will include participating in hydro-geological investigations, assisting with the review of mining permit applications, and using computer software to geo-reference maps of mine sites. These contributions will help to address environmental concerns associated with mining operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2025 through 8/29/2025
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Current full-time enrollment in a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree program in one of the following acceptable majors:
    • Environmental Resource Management
    • Biology
    • Geology
  • An approved major course of study at an accredited college or university.
  • Freshman year completed.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university


 

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
