Doing Business in the Middle East September Program

UChicago Career Advancement is excited to announce the launch of our inaugural Career Advancement September program “Doing Business in the Middle East”, developed in collaboration with the American University of Cairo. 

This innovative program offers UChicago undergraduate students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, enhance their professional skills, and learn more about what Egypt and the region have to offer!

This high-impact global experience offers students a chance to develop international business acumen, expand their professional network, and enhance their career prospects in an increasingly globalized job market.

The program is expected to run September 8 through September 23, 2025 in Cairo Egypt.

PROGRAM CONTENT

  • Academic Sessions at AUC – Learn from expert faculty and industry leaders about key topics such as: inclusive development and sustainability; entrepreneurship and family business; finance and marketing in the MENA Region, circular economy and sustainable business
  • Networking & Professional Development – Meet and engage with local business leaders, AUC faculty, and students to build valuable connections.
  • Company Visits & Industry Insights – Explore Egypt’s business ecosystem through site visits to leading companies, including financial institutions, multinational corporations, and emerging startups.
  • Cultural Immersion – Experience Egypt’s rich history with guided visits to landmarks such as the Pyramids of Giza, Al-Moez Street, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.

PROGRAM COSTS

Program Fee

  • A program fee of $450 will be charged to your student account by the Office of the Bursar after you've attended the program. This fee supports hotel accommodations.

Additional Costs Covered By Students

  • Airfare to and from the trek destination
  • Visa
  • Transportation to the airport, as well as between the airport and hotel
  • Lunch & Dinner

1. (REQUIRED)  Submit a One-Page Resume

2. (REQUIRED)  Letter of Interest/Cover Letter

Please submit a one-page letter of interest outlining why you want to attend this specific program. Please combine your resume and cover letter into one document. The cover letter should be formatted following Career Advancement's cover letter guide, and include answers to all of the following questions:

  • Why you would like to attend the program, what you hope to get out of it, and how you can make the program meaningful for yourself and the other students attending.
  • How will you adapt to a different culture, both in the classroom and beyond? Have you ever lived abroad or been in an unfamiliar environment that challenged you to adjust?
  • What your experience is with the relevant industry, if any.
  • How traveling to this destination could enhance your career growth in the industry.
  • How you will use the experience to further your professional development upon your return.
  • What else you are looking forward to seeing / doing while you are at the destination.
