Visual Design Art Intern - TFT
Riot Visual Designers seek to craft the best player experiences through their knowledge of systemic design, graphic design, layout, typography, and color theory. Designers collaborate with cross disciplinary teams and act as both artistic and design problem solvers. They understand players and ask questions about the what, who and how when solving for an interface or communication challenge.
As a Visual Design Intern for TFT Gameplay, you will contribute to in-game UI experiences that enhance the gameplay fun of Teamfight Tactics. You will handcraft 2D vector UI art that considers interaction states, color, typography, iconography, and layout. You will also have the chance to work with these elements in a variety of tools like Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and new tools like Riot's proprietary League game engine. You will work alongside art directors, visual designers, UX designers, motion graphics artists, gameplay engineers and more to translate abstract UX designs into beautiful and functional visuals directly in our game engine. Functionality, thematic resonance, and player empathy will be top of mind as you help push for the highest visual quality.
Responsibilities:
- Create 2D UI visuals that balance aesthetics with functionality and follows the Teamfight Tactics quality, style, and visual design conventions.
- Work closely with the Visual Design lead and UI team to support in-game features for new sets that reinforce product goals.
- Collaborate with a team of UX, Motion Graphics, Production, Audio, and Engineering experts to design and bring new UI to life.
- Implement your UI in the engine, carefully ensuring every asset is pixel-perfect across all devices from PC to Mobile.
- Balance craft and product feedback with a strong empathy and focus on player value.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an art, visual design, or related degree program.
- Graduating during the 2026 calendar year.
- Available to work full-time hours for the 12 week internship duration.
- Eligible to work in the country that you reside in during this remote program.
- Visual design experience in Figma and/or other UI/UX design apps.
- Experienced with Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Knowledge of game design pipelines, including optimization, localization, and implementation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Comfortable working in game engines like Unity or Unreal.
- Experience visualizing player flows for cross-platform experiences (PC and Mobile).
- Experience applying thematic art directions to temporary feature spaces.
- Experience in secondary crafts such as motion graphics and illustration.
- Familiarity with motion graphics software like Spine, After Effects, etc.
- Knowledge of League of Legends / Teamfight Tactics IP and style.
