Position Title: Book Arts Ambassador

Position Details and Duties:

Learn the ins and outs of the Book Arts Studio with a new Book Arts Ambassador Position! Create a schedule that works for you.  Learn new skills in bookmaking, papermaking, and printing.  In your downtime, do your homework in one of the best rooms at Herron!  Work with awesome teachers.  Read on to learn more about this position!

SHOP KEEP

  • Clean, organize, and distribute type
  • Basic cleaning of rollers, presses & Ink cans (beyond student care)
  • Communicate with print tech for scheduling routine press maintenance, paper cutters, etc.
  • Keep count of classroom materials: rulers, glue, scissors, binder's cloth
  • Maintain paper and book board shelves
  • Clean out drawers of scrap paper
  • Restock supplies
  • Replace tympans on presses
  • Oil presses
  • Clean press beds of all debris and oils
  • Clean and prepare wooden type and furniture
  • Reorganize leading

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Inventory and type up list of shop supplies
  • Post and keep calendars/schedule for printing
  • Labels for type, supplies, etc.
  • Running list of supplies for separate classes

PREP

  • Help prepare papermaking materials, set up, and clean up

Qualifications and Skills Needed: 

Successful candidates in this role will have: 

  • demonstrated skill in communication (written and verbal)
  • working knowledge or willingness to learn about book, paper, and print making
  • ability to learn new technology and tools
  • organization skills
  • a keen attention to detail
  • a passion for learning
