SIP 2025 - IT Desktop Support Associate (Off Campus) at City of North Olmsted I.T. Department

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  
Under general direction of the Technology Architect and the Help Desk Coordinator, this position provides Information Technology (IT) helpdesk technical support and resolution to all City of North Olmsted employees.

Note: In-person interviews will be conducted on Feb. 28, 2025, at West and Metro. These interview fairs are your only opportunity to meet and interview with hiring supervisors.

The Information Technology Desktop Support Associate will provide direct technical assistance and support to The City of North Olmsted staff for network, hardware and software related issues under the direct supervision of the Help Desk Coordinator and the Technology Architect. Duties include installing and maintaining all computer systems 

Responsibilities

  • Software and hardware on Desktops, Laptops, Microsoft Surfaces’, Tablets, MDT’s and Mobile Devices
  • Resolving internet and network access issues (both wired and wireless)
  • Providing network printer support
  • Meeting with staff to provide one-on-one technical assistance as needed / requested
  • Determining root cause of computer / software / printer / voice / network failures through evaluation and testing
  • Implement resolutions via modifications, repair, or support assistance through the IT Department Helpdesk Ticketing System
  • This is a continuous employment opportunity, initially lasting up to 3 months with the potential to exceed.  Increased summer hours may also be available dependent upon internship program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The City of North Olmsted IT Department is looking for a student intern with exceptional customer service skills, solid troubleshooting skills, ability to work well in a team environment, excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Applicants must have experience with both Windows 10 and Windows 11 Professional in a highly technical support environment. Exposure to Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 is added benefit. Applicants must also have experience supporting recent versions of Microsoft Office Applications, including 2013 / 2016.  Experience with networking technologies and printer support is required.
  • Applicants must have awareness of the PC hardware components, desktop operating system software, and application software. Applicants must have awareness of the PC industry’s current and emerging technology trends. Interested applicants should possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Applicants should have the ability to research, understand and update technical documentation, and an understanding of how to apply various technical resources. Applicants should have the ability to perform tasks such as operating systems and application software installations and upgrades, as well as virus protection and eradication.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 months paid or volunteer work experience with computer desktop support in a networked environment.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 12-16 hours per week.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in a telecommunications or computer-related field.
  • A basic understanding of computer network cabling and network file and print services.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage time.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectiveness in working with a high-performing team
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and promote strong internal and external relationships

  • Must be enrolled in current semester (Spring 2025)
  • Must enroll in a minimum of one Summer 2025 course
  • Must be returning to Tri-C for Fall 2025 Semester

This position is part of the Cuyahoga Community College Summer Internship Program.
