AI Development Intern

 

Position: AI Development Intern

Location: Remote or Hybrid (Baltimore, MD)
Duration: March – June 2025 (Spring Term)
Hours: 10-15 hours per week (flexible scheduling to accommodate coursework)
Compensation: $25/hour


restricted to the following applicants: 

position only available to students enrolled in Maryland Universities, or Maryland residents enrolled in- or out-of-state.   Non-residents will not be reviewed.

About FutureMakers

FutureMakers is a small yet impactful manufacturer of hands-on, screen-free learning kits called Sparks. With a mission to empower educators and learners through playful exploration and social-emotional learning (SEL), we are developing Readyness, an AI-powered educator success tool. This platform will help K-5 educators seamlessly plan, prepare, and execute engaging, hands-on projects while aligning with educational standards.

We are seeking a creative and technically skilled AI Development Intern to contribute to the early-stage development of Readyness, focusing on its AI-driven features.
 

Responsibilities

As the AI Development Intern, you will:

  1. Collaborate with the FutureMakers team to refine the AI agent's user-interaction model based on educator needs.
  2. Develop and test AI-driven features within the Readyness platform, including:
    • Interview-style data collection for educators.
    • Dynamic generation of tailored preparation materials and resources.
    • Suggestions for aligning projects with standards like NGSS and CASEL.
  3. Work with existing datasets to train and validate AI models, ensuring usability and effectiveness.
  4. Incorporate principles of learning engineering and adult learning strategies to optimize the AI for educator preparation and confidence-building.
  5. Design intuitive, educator-friendly interfaces for AI tools using APIs (e.g., OpenAI's GPT-4).
  6. Conduct user testing and feedback sessions to refine AI functionalities.
  7. Collaborate with Loyola University Maryland's Consulting Group and other education stakeholders to gather insights and validate project assumptions.
  8. Document the development process, including technical notes and user feedback for future iterations.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Enrollment in a Computer Science, Data Science, Education Technology, or related undergraduate/graduate program.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenAI GPT models).
  • Demonstrated applied experience with learning engineering or adult learning strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of or interest in K-12 education, social-emotional learning, and/or standards-based teaching practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Airtable, Zapier, Webflow, and other no-code/low-code tools.
  • Experience designing conversational AI or chatbots.
  • Prior experience with user testing or human-centered design.
  • Knowledge of instructional design frameworks or strategies for professional development.
