TECH B POSITION DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS, DIVISION OF NEPHROLOGY & HYPERTENSION COLUMBIA UNIVERSIY IRVING MEDICAL CENTER
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a technician B to join our team in a full time position. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing a laboratory technician B in the division of Pediatric Nephrology & Hypertension to support the research of Fangming Lin, MD, PhD, and Pamela Good, MD. This technician B will perform laboratory experiments in support of scientific research projects related to basic science research in kidney development and regeneration.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Interacts with the principal investigators and laboratory members (students, postdoctoral fellows, and others) to plan research projects and assist with day-to-day laboratory management.
2. Performs statistical analysis of data; prepares and performs internal progress reports on experiments.
3. Assists in orientation and training of new investigators, fellows, visiting trainees, and others as needed. Monitors compliance with safety rules in the lab under supervision of PIs.
4. Attends weekly laboratory meetings and other training programs in other collaborating laboratories as needed.
5. Mouse tissue harvesting, kidney histology and immunostaining.
6. Perform administrative duties as needed, including but not limited to: ordering supplies and reagents, performing inventory on laboratory materials, organizing freezers and other storage, reconciling purchase charges through central administration, submitting purchases orders when required.
7. May conduct computational studies and or manage research databases.
8. May contribute to publications and research presentations.
9. Image acquisition with microscope and computer.
10. Western blot analysis.
11. Maintenance of transgenic mouse lines.
12. Record keeping of laboratory materials.
13. Other duties, as required.
The work will be performed in a laboratory setting with a moderate level of physical activity required.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Other requirements • Previous experience working in a basic science laboratory setting • Relevant coursework from undergraduate studies (Microbiology, Molecular biology) • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint are required. Basic knowledge of advanced programs such as R programming, QIMME and Ingenuity Pathway Analysis is preferred. • A motivated and enthusiastic team player with strong organizational skills is desired. Strong oral and written communication skills are preferred.
