Position Overview
The Office of Firearm Violence Prevention is seeking to hire a position to serve as the Research Unit Manager for the Office of Firearm Violence Prevention (OFVP) in Chicago. This position leads the conceptualization, coordination, and implementation of multifaceted research studies/projects, using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method social science research methodologies; plans, manages, and facilitates external events, including town-hall meetings, listening sessions, and/or workgroups; serves as full-line supervisor; provides methodologic expertise on research design and data collection for submission of various Firearm Violence Prevention related grant proposals; plans, controls, and manages the creation, execution, and maintenance of various Data Sharing Agreements with external entities involving Firearm Violence Prevention data/information; and represents OFVP at various statewide/national seminars, workgroups, retreats, and/or conferences.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the Research Unit Manager to lead the conceptualization, coordination, and implementation of multifaceted research studies/projects, using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method social science research methodologies.
- Plans, manages, and facilitates external events, including town-hall meetings, listening sessions, and/or workgroups.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Provides methodologic expertise on research design and data collection for submission of various Firearm Violence Prevention related grant proposals.
- Plans, controls, and manages the creation, execution, and maintenance of various Data Sharing Agreements with external entities involving Firearm Violence Prevention data/information.
- Represents OFVP at various statewide/national seminars, workgroups, retreats, and/or conferences.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required, which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
- Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a health or human services organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four (4) years professional experience conducting, managing, and delivering a range of research and development projects for a public or private organization.
- Four (4) years professional experience developing and utilizing appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods and tools to support high quality research and analysis.
- Two (2) years professional experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other special software for developing reports, presentations, dashboards, etc.
- Two (2) years professional experience with state or federal level data in the health and social services field.
- Two (2) years professional experience communicating effectively, orally and in writing, with small and large internal and external audiences.
- Two (2) years professional experience developing and leading presentations.
- Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off, and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires basic proficiency in research methods, statistical analysis, and statistical tools.
- Requires basic proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and data visualization software such as Tableau.
- Requires ability to travel extensively statewide with overnight stays.
