
Database Administrator/IT Department Intern - Legal Action (SEJ Program))
Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc. (LAW) is seeking a temporary full-time intern to work with its Database Administrator and IT Department. The intern will provide support and assistance with large projects such as creating dashboards and other visualizations of data within our case management database (Legal Server), improving internal communications and processes through Sharepoint, and increasing the efficiency of the online intake process. The intern will also perform a variety of other tasks and duties as assigned.
LEGAL ACTION OF WISCONSIN, INC
Legal Action is a large, vibrant non-profit law firm funded by the federal Legal Services Corporation, the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation, and other sources. Legal Action provides free legal aid to about 13,500 low-income persons annually in the southern 39 counties of Wisconsin with offices in Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Oshkosh, Green Bay, and La Crosse. In addition, LAW operates a statewide farmworker project, and several other state-wide projects serving crime victims, including victims of sex and labor trafficking. LAW attorneys have expertise in a range of substantive areas, but most of our work is in the areas of housing, public benefits, removing barriers to employment, consumer law, and family law. The Database Administrator and IT Department support the work of approximately 150 Legal Action employees.

OFFICE LOCATION
The intern may be based in either the Milwaukee (633 W Wisconsin Avenue, Ste 2000) or the Oshkosh (300 Ohio Street) office of Legal Action of Wisconsin. Remote work is also possible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will perform in-depth analyses of data, internal processes, and communications working to streamline operations and increase efficiency. The intern will also perform a variety of other tasks including attending Legal Server office hours, internal database committee meetings and assisting with database training.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate student
- Major or minor in either Computer Science or Statistics and Data Science preferred
- Strong interest in data, technology, or process analysis required
- Prior experience with database or case management systems a plus
- Familiarity with Sharepoint and Microsoft 365 required
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position involves sedentary work, including sitting at a desk on a computer for an extended period. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and/or laptop keyboard and use a telephone. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Drives a motor vehicle while seated for extended periods of time daily. Occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping involved to retrieve various items and materials. This position works in an environmentally-controlled office environment with moderate noise from phones, printers and light office traffic in the LAW office.
SALARY
This position is supported by a stipend from Lawrence University’s Social & Environmental Justice Fellowship. Legal Action of Wisconsin will not pay the intern a salary.
Compensation:
This internship is part of the Lawrence University Social & Environmental Justice Cohort, which provides an opportunity for Lawrentians to explore social and environmental justice impact careers, gain professional experience, and develop as leaders. Students complete a full-time summer 2025 internship with an identified social and/or environmental justice impact organization in Milwaukee or Appleton, while participating in ongoing reflection with fellow students, Professor Jason Brozek, the Career Center, community leaders and alumni. Students may apply for as many positions as they are qualified for and interested in. Each student in the SEJ program will receive a $5k stipend to help cover housing and transportation costs and living expenses.
