The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for Key Account Intern in the Business Development Department, located in Lansing, MI.
Position Summary:

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour.
Position Summary:
Primarily responsible for the department include retention, expansion, and overall satisfaction of strategic commercial and industrial customers. This also includes identifying business development opportunities and implementing marketing initiatives. This position is responsible for monitoring and understanding assigned customer operations, changes, and drivers. Responsible for providing exceptional customer service, contract management as assigned, and building long-term business relationships and partnerships with executive level decision makers. Communicates to management customer activities that may impact BWL operations and/or financial status. Work will be performed under the general direction of the Business Development Manager.
The intern will assist with essential tasks such as data management, reporting, and customer profile updates, and help the team focus on strategic initiatives. With support for customer communication, feedback analysis, and service research, they will help anticipate and address customer needs. The role will provide hands-on experience in customer relationship management, data analysis, and energy industry insights. This aligns with our commitment to community engagement and professional development. The Key Account Intern will learn from, and be supervised by, a mentor in the Business Development Department.
Essential Functions:
Update customer profiles and databases.
Generate performance and energy usage reports.
Clean and correct customer data.
Draft customer communication templates.
Organize and manage account documentation.
Prepare meeting agendas and take notes.
Schedule meetings or site visits.
Shadow meetings with key accounts.
Contribute to process improvement projects.
Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
Predictable and reliable attendance.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Job Specifications:
Required:
Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Business, Marketing, Communications, Engineering, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2025.
Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the working day. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment, including the use of stairs. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. Must frequently communicate with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. The person in this position needs to move about in industrial environments and on uneven terrain occasionally. May be required to recognize small numbers, letters, symbols, color on prints, and operate field instruments/equipment.
Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions and industrial environments.
Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).
