Our Day Club runs Monday-Friday and is a place where IDD individuals can experience meaningful opportunities for growth, purpose and connection. As a Day Club DSP, you will play an important role in fostering a community where uniquely-abled adults can live life well and make a difference in the lives of others! Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Be a positive, attentive, understanding and caring presence in the lives of our members.
- Ensure the rights and dignity of individuals are respected at all times.
- Provide direct care and assistance with daily living activities while promoting skill acquisition and independence. This includes personal hygiene, changing, mealtime/feeding, diet/food preparation, ambulation, positioning, lifts and transfers, social skills, positive behavioral strategies, and community safety.
- Facilitate our members’ meaningful participation in various activities of their choosing, including: fitness, recreation, art, cooking, music, education and service projects.
- Support individuals in exploring and engaging with their own community through a variety of venues, events and outings.
- Drive vehicle to transport individuals to and/or from the Day Club (pick-ups and drop-offs) and to off-site activities during the program while adhering to all safety requirements related to the use and maintenance of vehicles.
- Follow organizational procedures for MUI/UI incident reporting and service documentation.
- Implement best-practices and universal precautions to ensure the safety and health of our members.
- Provide timely feedback about an individual’s changes, progress, health and needs.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and families on a daily basis.
- Be flexible and proactive in all aspects of the role.
- Be a team-player and contribute to a positive team culture.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
- Must provide proof of Highschool Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must possess a valid driver’s license/photo ID, reliable transportation, and a driving record that will enable the employee to be insured (if applicable)
- Previous experience in providing direct care or services to persons with developmental disabilities (preferred)
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- At least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must pass the BCI/FBI background check, database checks, and drug screening.
- Satisfactory Professional Reference Checks.
- Ability to complete CPR/First Aid/AED training.
- Ability to complete DSP training and Tru Community agency training.
- Acknowledgement of Employee Handbook and Policies.
- Dependable and reliable attendance record.
- Ability to communicate and build rapport with individuals, families and coworkers while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and service.
- Ability to deal with stressful situations, challenges, interruptions and last-minute changes while maintaining composure and keeping priorities straight.
- Teachable, adaptable and open to trying new approaches.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk for extended periods of times in a variety of environments, bend down as needed.
- Ability to participate in all staff trainings on periodic and annual basis.

What is it like to work as a Direct Support Professional?
- The DSP position is an active role that usually requires an employee to be on his/her feet for a majority of the shift. It also involves walking, bending, lifting and carrying.
- The DSP position is a hands-on role that requires the employee to provide supervision and direct care to special needs adults in a dignified, person-centered manner. This include personal hygiene (toileting/changing), meal prep/feeding, lifts/positioning, med administration, assistive devices...etc.
- The DSP position is a highly-relational role that requires the employee to genuinely engage in frequent interactions and conversations with members, coworkers and families on a daily basis. Developing meaningful relationships with Day Club members is an important part of this role.
- The DSP position is a flexible role that requires the employee to adapt to a variety of personalities, situations and needs. On occasion, a DSP may encounter an individual who is exhibiting verbal or physical aggression, property destruction, socially inappropriate behavior, self-harm, elopement...etc. At Tru Community, we ensure all of our staff are trained in proactive behavior supports and de-escalations strategies.

- Our primary service location is in 44023 (Bainbridge/Chagrin Falls). We do not currently have any other service locations.
- We are an Adult Day Service provider and do not currently offer any residential or home-aide services.
