Catastrophe Modeling Analyst Intern
How you'll contribute:
As part of our summer internship program, a successful candidate will be exposed to all areas of the reinsurance broking business, working directly with senior members of the Catastrophe Modeling, Actuarial, and Broking teams with on-the-job training in analytics and risk modeling.
- Preparation and review of exposure data including assessing data quality
- Processing of exposure data as needed for catastrophe modeling purposes
- Execution of catastrophe modeling and extraction and interpretation of results
- Creation of various reports summarizing exposures and catastrophe modeling results
- Post-catastrophe modeling analytics (e.g., reinsurance structure pricing, reinsurance cost allocation, portfolio optimization)
- Communication of catastrophe modeling results to internal brokers and actuaries and external stakeholders
Upon successful completion of the internship program, intern will have acquired valuable knowledge of the reinsurance industry while developing technical, analytical, interpersonal, and relationship management skills, building a strong foundation in one's career in the insurance and/or financial services industries.
Requirements:
- Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to present complex technical subjects both internally and externally to varied audiences
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks under time and resource constraints
- Strong understanding of relational databases and associated structured query language (“SQL”) skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills especially Excel
- Proficiency in programming using R, Python, or other comparable language
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of probability and statistics
- Strong interpersonal skills
Desired Class Level and Related Majors:
- Rising College Senior
- Working towards Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Meteorology, Risk Management, or other technical degrees
