WATER POLICY INTERNSHIPS FOR SPRING 2025

APPLY BY JANUARY 17, 2025

The Interstate Council on Water Policy (ICWP) has immediate openings for up to three interns to assist in accomplishing its mission for Spring 2025.

About:

There are numerous benefits including the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of current national water policy issues and the opportunity to meet leaders in national water policy through ICWP- sponsored events and committees. Interns will receive a $1,000 stipend.

They also have numerous opportunities to network with water managers from across the nation throughout the duration of their internships and are invited to participate in ICWP committee meetings (Legislation and Policy, Water Data and Science, Water Planning, and Interstate Water Management) and virtual events.

2025 Project Topics:

Interns will work with a supervisor to select one or more projects based on interests and skills. The list below reflects ICWP’s project priorities for 2025. Selected projects may include a combination of these topics or others not listed, should a candidate submit a worthy proposal.

  • Water Data Governance – Conduct stakeholder interviews and organize small focus groups (virtual) with state water agencies to review their existing and potential frameworks for water dataset development and publication decision-making. Project results will be used to inform efforts to update/refine water data sharing frameworks, structure state water data governance, define pathways for potential legislative action, and support other water data publication.
  • Soil Moisture and Evapotranspiration – Conduct a membership survey to document jurisdictional efforts to monitor these parameters.
ICWP Streamgaging— Support ICWP’s streamgaging advocacy including providing recommendations to assist with our annual stakeholder support letter and identifying advocacy strategies for legacy Streamgage stations.
  • Planning Assistance to States (PAS)— Conduct outreach to support ICWP member states to identify qualifying disadvantaged communities for targeted Army Corps of Engineers PAS outreach (see 2024 PAS Project Report recommendations).
  • Committee Event Planning –Participate in ICWP committee meetings and assist committee chairs in developing a database of contacts for future speakers and topics to support committee visions.

The culmination of the internships will be a presentation of project findings to ICWP membership at the end of the spring semester. Internships may be extended based on availability and interest.
