The Golden Parks and Recreation Department is a CAPRA Accredited Parks and Recreation Department and most recently received the Gold Medal Award from the National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA).
 

We are looking for a Specialty Instructor - Indoor Cycling/Spinning; prepares and instructs indoor cycling/spinning classes to youth, adults, and seniors. Ensures a safe and fun experience for all participants.

JOB SUMMARY

• Teaches indoor cycling/spinning classes to a variety of age groups. Coordinates and prepares music and choreography of class routines as necessary.
• Exercises safety awareness and practices.
• Provides a positive, fun, and safe experience to class participants.
• Provides set-up and tear down of class equipment when applicable.
• Follows and enforces all department policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
• Handles and reports to the Recreation Supervisor – Wellness and General Programs any problems, concerns, or emergencies that arise during their classes.
• Assists Recreation Supervisor with evaluation of the program by providing feedback and recommendations for class/program improvement.
• Responsible for securing a substitute when unable to work assigned class.
  
  Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education diploma (GED). Minimum one year cycling/spinning teaching experience and/or training. Must hold a current CPR certification. Must possess current certification in indoor cycling/spinning by a national accredited fitness-testing agency, i.e. Schwinn, Mad Dog, Johnny G, Precision Athletics, YMCA, Cycle Reebok, AFAA, AAAI/ISMA.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current CPR certification.

Current certification in indoor cycling/spinning by a national accredited fitness-testing agency, i.e. Schwinn, Mad Dog, Johnny G, Precision Athletics, YMCA, Cycle Reebok, AFAA, AAAI/ISMA.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Ability to work well with people of all ages and abilities. 
 
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Mats, indoor bicycles, free weights, xertubes, tape player, CD player, headset, and microphone system.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; move fitness equipment including indoor bicycles; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to cycle, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment is primarily in an indoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
