The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities. The Financial Management Branch (FMB), within the CDPH Administration Division, is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and management of the Department’s budget, maintenance of accounting records and financial data, and acts as the liaison with the Department of Finance (DOF), Legislative Analyst’s Office, Legislative Budget staff, and the federal government on budget and fiscal matters affecting the Department.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by serving as the Associate Accounting Analyst (AAA) under general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor) of the Cash Reporting Team. The incumbent independently performs complex professional accounting duties, requiring a comprehensive understanding of the State Government accounting process. Key responsibilities include verifying, reconciling, and posting department’s cash receipts, monitoring the cash receipts process to ensure timely and accurate completion of all outstanding payments, and reviewing and analyzing complex financial data and reports to identify and resolve outstanding items, issues, and errors.

The candidate will collaborate closely with control agencies, contractors, banks, and various levels of staff within Accounting and Centers/Divisions/Offices (CDOs) to address and correct complex issues.  Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for preparing and analyzing the data for fiscal reports and providing a summary report to management and relevant CDOs. As a subject matter expert, the incumbent will answer internal and external customers’ inquiries, provide training to team members, offer process improvement suggestions, review month-end and year-end closing deadlines in alignment with State control agencies’ instructions, and assist managers with special projects.

  • Ability to take initiative, think creatively, work collaboratively, and demonstrate good attention to detail.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and Outlook skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attendance and dependability.
