Get Out the Vote Intern
Are you concerned about our democracy? The mission of the League of Women Voters is: Empowering Voters, Defending Democracy. The League is a 104-year-old organization that encourages civic engagement and participation by providing community education and legislative advocacy. The League is non-partisan – we do not support or oppose any candidates or political parties. We are well known for our Voters Guides where all candidates running for office may explain their positions on issues of concern to the community and the League.
The League is looking for 2 or 3 smart, self-motivated student interns who are interested in empowering voters and defending democracy. We have a range of activities to suit the individual intern’s skills and interests. We plan for our interns to have real-life experiences that build on their academic skills. By the end of the internship, students will have a “show & tell” product to add to their portfolio to show future employers the quality of their work in a real life setting. Intern hours are typically on a M/W/F schedule, but we can work with you.
The main functions of the League’s state office are communications and fundraising. Intern tasks for the 2025 spring semester may include:
• Develop and execute social media plans to Get Out The Vote for upcoming Elections,
• Creating content about League members and accomplishments for social media and fundraising,
• Create videos that explain the voting process and encourage voting,
• Write press releases, newsletters, grants, fundraising letters, thank you letters,
• In addition to the tasks mentioned above, we structure unique projects depending on the needs of the intern. These have included research on voting, presentations on political communications, and research on constitutional amendments. Progress will be measured with regular meetings with leaders within the League.
- We also can work with an A/V oriented student for our upcoming needs.
While this is not a paid internship, our interns do have a lot of fun doing meaningful work. Interested students, please send resumes and class requirements to: Sophie Boston at sboston@lwvtexas.org asap. If the intern is not doing this for class credit, 3 references are required.
