Camp Merri-Mac for Girls is looking for riding instructors and counselors. We are a traditional Christian camp in Black Mountain North Carolina that places a special emphasis on excellence in riding instruction and horse care.

This is a salaried position that includes room and board. If needed, this can also be turned into an internship with over 100 hours of teaching experience. Out of Cabin Riding Instructor
Qualification:
- Must possess current CPR, and Basic First Aid certifications (or the equivalent)
- Must be a mature and competent leader willing to take responsibility for a group of campers
General Responsibilities:
- Loyalty to camp, its management, policies and ideals
- Responsible to authority of camp directors and assistant directors
- Maintain a safe and quality riding experience
- Provide for the exceptional care and safety of all campers
- Ensure that camp is consistent with ACA standards and operating procedures
- Any other duties that the director deems necessary for the operation of camp
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teach and assist with up to 4 hours of riding instruction daily.
- Following the direction of the riding director you will
- Tack horses, maintain riding equipment, provide instruction in and out of the ring
- Give attention to ACA and camp standards for program
- 5+ hours of horse and barn care daily.
- Following the direction of the riding director you will
- Clean stalls and barn
- Feed and groom horses
- Be a positive, engaging, and patient counselor to ALL your campers
- Voice any concerns or issues to the directors
- Setting the standard for integrity, honesty, and kindness amongst the campers
- Assure campers are properly supervised at all times
- Connect with counselor staff, with special attention to any riding staff who are in cabin
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all cabin activities
- Be alert to individual camper needs and assist them with their specific circumstances. Discuss with cabin area director, nurse, or director when appropriate or advice is needed
- Enthusiastically attend all meals in the dining hall
- Keeping your personal area of the cabin neat, clean and organized
Marks of success:
- You know the names of all your campers and use their names while talking with them
- You talk with your campers more than you talk with other staff
- You allow yourself adequate sleep each night
- You actively put your camper's needs before your own
- At least 3 of your campers mention you in their camper survey in a positive way.
- You are willing to ask for help if it is needed
- You find yourself growing spiritually while here
