Please Note: Hamilton Elementary will be an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. The individual selected for this position will be required to attend specific IB trainings (up to 5 days) during the summer months.
Schedule: 42 weeks per year
Position Purpose: Under the direction of the building principal, the Dean of Elementary Students will also have responsibilities as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator. This leadership role is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and high-performing school environment by assisting with the alignment of state standards, district curriculum, and the PYP framework. Emphasizing instructional leadership, professional development, and data-driven, culturally responsive practices, this individual will support student learning and staff growth while building positive relationships with families, community organizations, and stakeholders. Additionally, this position will provide support to Early Childhood programming housed at the Hamilton Elementary Building, as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists the Principal in the most effective use of the human, technical, and fiscal resources allocated to the school.
- Collaborate with the IB Principal and the Instructional Leadership Team to coordinate and implement the state standards and district curriculum, ensuring a consistent focus on student achievement within the PYP framework.
- Support teachers in delivering standards-based instruction and assessments to monitor and support student learning and growth.
- Ensure all staff members are fully trained in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and provide ongoing professional development opportunities, including participation in professional learning communities (PLCs), IB workshops, and other relevant professional development.
- Assists the Principal in meeting goals and objectives as outlined in the district's strategic plan.
- Implement and adhere to all district policies and procedures specified by the Board of Education, the State of Michigan and the U.S. Department of Education.
- Assist Principal to ensure that teachers understand and deliver instruction through the utilization of the District’s approved curriculum and provide appropriate assessments to ensure student learning and growth
- Assist principal to ensure that data is utilized to drive, inform, and differentiate instruction. Ensure that culturally responsive teaching techniques and strategies are utilized to enhance student learning and growth.
- Utilize the evaluation process to provide timely feedback for staff and student development and growth
- Assist with planning and facilitating teacher and behavior intervention professional development by modeling effective strategies in the classroom and school environment.
- Support district assessment needs and coordinate efforts to facilitate testing related to District common assessments, M-STEP, WIDA, and other state and national assessments.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining positive relationships with parents and community organizations.
- Identify staff professional development needs and encourages professional growth of teachers to ensure high levels of student learning.
- Assist and support the implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support.
- Assist and support a school environment that will enable learning to occur in a meaningful manner in a climate of high expectations for self, staff, student and parents.
- Utilize restorative justice practices and implement alternatives to out-of-school suspensions
- Keep abreast of current educational practices regarding the academic, social and physical preparation of students to ensure the school continues to meet the needs of all students.
- Assist with planning ongoing opportunities for family and community involvement.
- Assist the Principal to develop and maintain community partnerships that enhance and support instruction leading to student achievement.
- Assists with student intervention including EL, 31a, Special Education, Title one, etc.
- Assists the Principal with testing, third grade reading, Common Core and iReady as well as formative assessments to improve teacher and student performance.
- Collaborates with and assists the Principal in staff development, supervision, and evaluation of teaching staff.
- Assists the Principal in the implementation of the school-wide MTSS/PBIS plan.
- Assists the Principal in coordinating and facilitating school meetings, including Student Study Team, Open House, conferences, parent group meetings, staff meetings, and after school events and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written communications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in administration, supervision or education, required
- Pursuant to 380.1246 and District expectations, the individual in this position must either hold a valid Michigan school administrator’s certificate or not later than 6 months after he or she begins employment as a school administrator, enroll in a program leading to certification as a school administrator and must complete the program within 3 years.
- Three years of successful teaching experience, preferred.
- Leadership experience in a school setting, preferred.
