Park Maintenance Worker

Hourly Pay Range: $24.03 - $27.88 per hour

Job Summary:  The Park maintenance Worker is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a park unit to ensure quality facilities and amenities and a safe environment; preserve and enhance department assets; ensure quality service and product delivery.

 

We are seeking a dedicated and versatile individual to fill a split position at McKinley Marina and the Downtown Unit. This role requires flexibility to report for work at 2 different locations for portions of the work year. The candidate would report to McKinley Marina April 15 till November 15. The shift at the Marina is a second shift 2:00pm till 10:00pm shift. Then Report to the Downtown Unit November 16-March 31. The shift at the downtown unit would be a first shift 7:00am-3:00pm or a mid shift of 10:00am-6:00pm. The Ideal candidate would possess strong organizational skills, customer-service oriented mindset and the ability to handle various tasks efficiently.

The Marina role would oversee the seasonal staff on second shift to be sure staff is completing the daily tasks. This position offers support to the Office staff when needed for repairs or issues. The marina role also addresses minor repair and facilities maintenance. The Downtown unit role would consist of maintenance at the Ice rink and general Winter maintenance in the downtown unit Parks.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Personnel management - Participate in and recommend hiring of seasonal park operations staff & provide daily supervision including job assignments, performance appraisals, workforce development, and establishing priorities to ensure the success of the Park Unit and the Department's strategies.
  • Turf and grounds maintenance - Maintain Park green space to include, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, fertilization, aerification, seeding, weeding, planting, mulching, and irrigation. Athletic field and sport court maintenance.
  • Athletic Fields and other Recreation Facility Maintenance - Set up and maintain natural or synthetic baseball/softball fields, turf sport fields and hard surface play courts by industry practices to a standards level for competitive play. Assist with special facilities such ice rinks, natural or rinks with chillers.
  • Building and amenity maintenance - Maintain buildings and facilities such as pavilions, shelters, service yards, clubhouses, pool buildings, to include, but not limited to, general cleaning, rental set up, waxing and stripping floors, graffiti removal, inspection, build and repair picnic tables.
  • Parkway, path, and parking lot maintenance - Maintain park roadways, drives, parking lots, and pathways to include, but not limited to, cold patching, line striping, cleaning catch basins, snow removal, and salting.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Inspect and maintain all equipment and tools related to the performance of job duties.
  • Administration - Process purchase requests; inventory supplies; process work orders, assist with project management; maintain logs; ensure relevant safety codes and regulations are followed.
  • Aquatic facility maintenance and operation - Maintain and operate a variety of pools, mainly splash pads and wading pools. Assist with deep-well pool preparations and maintenance with some operation when necessary.
  • Special assignments and projects - Participate on special project teams; community outreach efforts; and other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Valid WI Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 50 lbs.
  • High School Diploma
  • At least One (1) years of experience in Grounds, Landscape, or Park Maintenance.
  • Associate degree preferred (Park & Rec, Horticulture, Agronomy, Turf Management).
  • Preferred supervisory experience less than One (1) year in an Parks/Maintenance-related area

 

License/Certification:

  • Cat. 3.0 pesticide certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • CDL B must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Class "A" preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
