Social Media Student Assistant - Buchtel College
The position of Student Assistant – Social Media is primarily responsible for assisting the BCAS staff in the development and execution of social media content. This position reports to the Director of Communications & Marketing. You must be a student at The University of Akron. Communications, integrated marketing, or public relations students preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing authentic content to connect with current BCAS students, UA students, alumni, community partners, and prospective students.
- Creating and implementing a social media schedule and calendar.
- Utilizing social media monitoring tools.
- Overseeing the day-to-day activities on social media platforms and apps including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X/Twitter.
- Identify and build relationships with UA student and faculty influencers in the College
- Attend occasional College events to gather content.
- Assist in implementing plans to increase followers and engagement on Instagram.
- Suggest participating in popular trends online (like, “Tell me you’re a psychology student without telling me you’re a psychology student”).
- Assist the BCAS staff with the implementation of a complete marketing program and marketing initiatives. Specifically, the student hired will help write and design marketing materials, which include but are not limited to social media posts, web stories, presentations, brochures and press releases.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency with social media platforms.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Graphic-design skill – either Canva or Adobe Suite applications.
- Strategic organizational objectives of major social media channels.
- Ability to understand the audiences that use the channels.
- The ability to train and counsel others on best practices in social media.
- Strong communication skills who is confident with working with other students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Highly organized with strong time management skills
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Experience with social media management platforms such as Meta Business.
- Good understanding of social media KPIs.
- Knowledge of photography and video editing.
We are looking for someone that can work 10 hours per week, depending on the project demands.
The pay is $10.70/hr.
