Sales Tax Enforcement Officer I
About the Job: In this position you will play a key role in enforcing sales and use tax compliance by investigating sales tax issues and recovering past-due payments through phone calls, email, or in person. This position involves directly engaging with businesses, calculating outstanding balances, and conducting fieldwork.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm
Work Location: City Administration Building 30 S Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. This position requires full-time in office presence.

As a Sales Tax Enforcement Officer I, you will:
- Oversee the collection of delinquent sales and use tax while ensuring business tax compliance
- Routinely engage with taxpayers to communicate tax laws and requirements, conduct field visits to discuss tax liabilities and provide solutions for resolving debts
- Coordinate follow- up investigations, issue verbal and written compliance warnings; investigate non-licensed business to determine licensing requirements
- Respond to citizens inquires, resolve disputes, and provide assistance to ensure taxpayers understand their obligations and rights; build and maintain positive relationships with taxpayers by demonstrating understanding, fairness, and professionalism in all interactions
- Administer legally imposed enforcement methods for escalated accounts, including issuing subpoenas, notices to appear, summonses to Municipal Court, and preparing and filing liens to recover owed taxes
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax laws, regulations, and administrative procedures.
- Collaborate with other governmental agencies to conduct investigations into suspected tax evasion

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of full-time, professional experience in collections, call center, accounting, bookkeeping, tax administration, business, or finance
